The August September

THE AUGUST SEPTEMBER

If the Bauhaus school of the 1920’s had had a music department, it would have produced a sound akin to that of The August September. Mixing carefully constructed synth flourishes, dark acerbic lyrics and pop sensibility - this is a group eager to kick the superfluous schmaltz of the iBand generation into touch.

Hailing from the post-industrial sprawl of the North West, the band quickly developed their brand of lo-fi rock and roll under the watchful gaze of mentor and sage Martin Ellis. Spliced together from a cutting room floor of influences, The August September are as much about the aesthetic as they are the sonic.

Taking their name from the sixties art house film by L.M. Kit Carson, the band weave a sense of theatrical intensity into every aspect of their performance. Punchy guitar assaults perforating solid bass drones provide the perfect soundtrack for the vocal (and physical) sparring of the band’s main protagonists Matt Adams and Claire ‘Brit’ Britton. Add to this the regimented stabbing of Andy Shaw’s percussion and one quickly realises this is a trio to challenge shrink wrapped pop whimsy.

Having relocated to London in 2011 after stints in Manchester, Belfast and New York, The August September are currently working on tracks for their debut album.

The trio have made waves with the recent realease of their latest single 'Paris' on 'Cavern Club Records' (The brand new record label from legendary Liverpool music venue 'The Cavern').
